Back-Country “Back Story”
With a Back-Country Upbringing on a Rocky Mountains plateau in the East Kootenay region of B.C. Leah draws from a childhood of happy solitude in paradise influenced by life on the farm. Her youth was about knowing a simple way of life, encouraged to make art. “An artist makes Art” was a common slogan around the family home.

Her work as an artist is constantly looking to reflect our perceptions and feelings of our time. Her paintings in particular are inspired by quantum concepts and depth of perception. As her style developed her paintings became more color fields with texture and simple symbolism.

Leah’s contemporary works fall into the categories of – color field, abstract, symbolism, and collage. She is recognized as a multidisciplinary multi-media artist using primarily acrylic on wood and canvas, paper, photography, fabric, and found objects. Her work explores particulate color vibrations, symbols of nature, with shapes to ease the eye into the overall experience of viewing. Her purpose when painting is to achieve a visual journey – with depth depicting particulate being influenced in hopes of reflecting our world – our belief in the solid – and how in fact – everything is a vast space full of moving bits.

Using abstract and vibrant color schemes (color fields), with organic brush work indulging in the “drips” while mixing and clashing color that creates what she calls a “Vibration”.
“Like tuning an instrument, when a painting is finished – I feel it is in tune.”

Leah teaches, exhibits, and is always learning. As an artist, fascinated with communicating abstract concepts and complimentary color combinations.

“My paintings have sometimes over 30 layers, in patches as under-layers exposed on purpose. Like little windows that allow the viewer to journey through the creative process, to feel the depth, and hopefully the viewer will be drawn into a contemplative place.
Having lived in many places through Canada, Leah currently resides in beautiful Edmonton Alberta.

INSPIRATION: Quantum concepts, patterns in nature and the universe, “noise art”, music, belief, the global human experience, and how people perceive the world around them.
