Creating circles out of squares, leaving windows looking through the layers giving depth & motion is what The Vortex series is all about. Introducing varieing degrees of an inwards, & outwards motion that spins, creates what observers compare to the likes of clock mechanics, city towers, computer chips, energy, & stained glass.

The underpainting process involves dozens of layers, where texture & drips become reflections in windows of what sits underneath. This impacts the depth and movement of the painting.
There are no sketches, & a lot of layers.
Using an intuitive layering process, with repetative blocky squares & shapes to identify the directional elements. Using loose gesturing brush strokes, thicker paint with mediums & gels to allow for imprinting patterns from found objects. Splattering inks & watered down acrylics, smudging & wiping off for that additional “reveal” as the piece develops .
The final layers are with a more gentle & guided painting process, with more discernment, cool & hot colors collide, bringing forward the prominent shapes to float closest, while kickstarting the motion effect with emphasis on the highlights. When the painting “pops” or “bounces”, it is complete.
The Vortex series is current & ongoing, commissions are available.

Series: Freedom Flight
Layering contrasting & complimentary colored squares while leaving windows to look through. Directional patterns & textures draw the observer to sense motion & movement. The concept is to mimic the idea of particulates, vibrations of energy, and the great interconnectedness of all things.
The Freedom Flight Series (still ongoing) has a flock of over 8 paintings now, & still taking commissions. The image of the bird in flight felt important, as a symbolic image that would resonate & offer an uplifting experience to the viewer.
